Office of the Presiding Bishop
“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6”
Dear Brother in Christ,
These words of Saint Paul are my prayer for you and all the communities of the Christian United Church. On this day when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church, I pray that you will experience the Holy Spirit as an “Advocate” and a “Comforter that will teach all truth”
The truth that the Church is for all people and God’s love reaches beyond any human limitation. Proclaim the good news Of Jesus Christ! In moments when you feel alone in the ministry, God is there, in the joys and sorrows of the people you serve, God is there. God always provide provision, when he gives you a vision.
We did not call you to the ordained ministry; we simply affirm that the Holy Spirit called you in the Father, through the Son. In the many places that you have followed your journey of faith and ministry, was the preparation that God gave you for this day. Your journey through the Catholic Church, Pentecostal, and Metropolitan Community Churches are a strong foundation to build your ministry.
I know that through you and your ministry, the Christian United Church will be a vital presence in your beloved country. The doors of the church are open for everyone, regardless of race, gender or orientation. Nothing can separate us from the love of God according to Saint Paul; therefore we cannot separate anyone from the Church. We must open the doors of the Church!
On behalf of the Christian United Church, we want to thank Bishop Richard for his leadership in providing a ministry to the LGBT community in the Philippines. I thank him for this generosity of ordaining you to the office of Itinerant Elder for the Christian United Church on my behalf.
Finally, my brother, be unceasing in your prayer, dedicated to serving God’s people, share the presence of Jesus Christ at the altar every week as you celebrate the Word of the Lord in Scripture and the Table of the Lord, in the Eucharist. Until that day that you must give account to Jesus Christ for your service, I know that he will see you through to completion. I close in the words of my motto, Taste and See that the Lord is Good.
Most Rev. David Strong,SSD
